The Gift That Gave So Much!

As readers know I had the very great honour of attending April at the freebirth of her son earlier in the month. As I am not yet certified I do not charge for my birth services, and I would never expect any gifts (being welcomed into a woman's birth space really is the greatest gift I can imagine!). But this week I received a package in the mail from April with very thoughtful gifts and a heart-warming letter thanking me for being present.

My baby daughter was April's junior doula and she received two pairs of baby shoes (including one with suns on them, a very sweet touch as April named her baby Sunny) and some rainbow coloured baby leg warmers. April gave me some chocolate and best of all a mei tai baby carrier!

Now, as if that wasn't cool enough in itself, last night I read the pamphlet that came with the mei tie from the maker and it had this to say:
Supporting the work of Daughters Cambodia
Daughters Cambodia is an organisation committed to restoring the dignity and hope of victims of people trafficking in Cambodia. Baby Kompowes are made by young women rescued from trafficking and given hope for the future. All proceeds from the sale of Baby Kompowes go back to Cambodia and the continuing work of Daughters.
For more information, please go to www.daughterscambodia.org

Whenever my partner and I wear our baby in this mei tai we will remember April's incredible freebirth and her beautiful son, as well as knowing that this carrier gave a girl in another part of the world an alternative to sexual slavery. It's a great feeling.

Thanks again April for this thoughtful gift and for supporting such a worthy cause!
